Choosing the right product

What age are Living Squad binoculars for?

The Toddler Kidnoculars are for ages 3 and up: they are focus-free, so there is nothing to adjust. The Kids Binoculars 8x21 Explorer Set is for ages 3 to 12. Most kids get the most out of it from about 5 to 7, when they can line up both eyes and use the focus wheel.

What's the difference between the Toddler Kidnoculars and the Explorer Set?

The Toddler Kidnoculars have a fixed focus: your child lifts them up and sees 8x closer, with no dials. They cost $24.95. The Explorer Set 8x21 has a center focus wheel, so older kids can sharpen the image themselves, and it comes with more accessories. It costs $29.99.

What does 8x21 mean?

8x is the magnification: things look 8 times closer. 21 is the width of each front lens in millimeters. A bigger lens lets in more light but makes the binoculars heavier; 21 mm keeps them small enough for a child's hands. We explain it in more detail in What Does 8x21 Mean on Binoculars?

Are these real binoculars or a toy?

Real binoculars. Both models use real 8x21 optics, so kids can actually see birds, animals and distant details clearly, not a blurry plastic view. The Toddler Kidnoculars use roof prisms and FMC multi-coated lenses.

Do they survive being dropped?

Yes, that is what they are built for. Both models have a shockproof, rubber-armored body with a non-slip grip that handles drops and bumps.

Are they safe for toddlers?

They have soft eyecups to protect little eyes and a breakaway neck strap that releases if it snags. The Toddler Kidnoculars are also made with food-grade materials.

What comes in the Explorer Set?

The 8x21 binoculars with a built-in compass, a belt case, a carabiner, a neck strap, a cleaning cloth and a bird calendar.

What is the "Where Did the Moon Go?" set?

A rhyming picture book about the phases of the moon, with watercolor art, plus a rechargeable puppy flashlight for making hand shadows at bedtime. It is for ages 2 to 9, written in English, and the flashlight charges by USB-C (cable included) and lasts 24+ hours. It costs $44.99.

What are Flash Pals?

Animal-shaped LED flashlights for kids: Lion, Doggie, Unicorn, Sharkie and Alligator. They are for ages 2 and up, rechargeable, stay cool to the touch, have a dimmer for reading in bed and turn themselves off automatically. They cost $17.99 each.

What's a good gift for a kid who loves nature?

The Explorer Set 8x21 is our best seller for birthdays and holidays. For a bigger gift, the Explorer Set + Where Did the Moon Go? bundle covers daytime adventures and bedtime for $54.99, which saves $4.99. For grandparents, see our gift guide.
